Creating Fun Wedding Tabletops and Centerpieces

By Katie Howell

Recently for a client we had lots of fun creating good tabletop examples to show them. We had all sorts of fun creating various styles and looks, mixing up chargers, linens, goblets, flatware, and other crucial elements.

But what makes a good tabletop?

A colorful linen is crucial to establishing a color scheme. In this client meeting, we showed three different versions with bold reds and blacks. However, sometimes even a simple runner can look amazing.

A good tip for discovering what is the best combo is to always have at least three different options to choose form.

Then we add chargers, plates, salad plates, bowls, whatever you want! I sometimes add a menu on top. Napkins can be put anywhere, but I like to have some fun with them and get creative. I place them underneath the plates or sometimes on top in fun designs. If we want a menu, I might tuck it in, as seen here.

Glasses come next. Goblets, wine (red and white), champagne, water, and whatever else you might want for your special occasion. You can mix and match and have lots of fun.

Finally, we have the fun additions to any table top: the toppings. Flowers, small bowls, skulls, whatever you want to add to the theme. Get creative. I sometimes like to look around me and see what is immediately in reach for quick inspiration.

Can’t wait to see what you come up with! What do you like to add to your tabletop? I’d love to know!
