How to Buy the Best Wedding Shoes
Finding the perfect wedding footwear can seem overwhelming. Where do I look? What style do I want? Will these shoes kill my feet? Worry no more! Here are some tips and tricks to make your wedding shoe shopping experience easy and stress free.
Start with understanding your needs and what you value most.
Comfort- Comfort or style…why not both? When seeking for more shoe comfort there are a variety of options to make you look and feel your best. Shoe sole inserts, heel grips, and toe pads are all great additions for comfort. Breaking them in with a blow dryer can also help however, this method may not be suitable for all shoe types and fabrics. An elegant flat can be just as jaw dropping as a heel.
Mobility- An easily overlooked aspect is the venue location(s). Are you going to be walking on grass or rocks? Is there an incline on the property? Make sure to take the location into consideration when choosing your shoe style. You don't want to be sinking into the grass with a stiletto…. If your special day does have grass make sure you request that the water be turned off 48 hours in advance, so no one's heels are sinking. You may want to consider height when choosing the heel. Some partners may not feel comfortable being taller or shorter. No matter the height or terrain, we highly recommend a change of shoes for later on. You’ll thank us later.
Style- There are so many colors, fabrics, and shapes to choose from. You can add personal touches to a shoe or consult a designer for a completely customized look. You can bedazzle, paint, embroider, glue and more…. Your personal style can shine through your gown. Converse, crystal sneakers, flip flops, cowboy boots... as event planners, we've seen it all.
Not sure where to look? We can help! Your bridal dress shop can be a great place to start. A Louboutin with a blue sole is a fun way to incorporate the “something blue” into your wedding look. Jimmy Choo's Aveline Bow Ankle Strap Sandal in black can be a perfect match for the bride with a black dress. Gucci and many other high end designers carry a variety of options to make you look and feel luxurious.
It is important to buy your shoes in advance … but how far in advance??? A general rule is the sooner the better. If you have are working with a designer, it is important to consult with them early on about your shoes. You may be surprised by their response. Some require to know ten months in advance. Be sure to wear your shoes to your garment fittings as this could change some alterations. Most importantly enjoy the process!
